WURD RADIO, PENNSYLVANIA’S ONLY INDEPENDENT BLACK TALK RADIO STATION, TO BROADCAST LIVE FROM WHITE HOUSE GROUNDS ON FEBRUARY 26th, KICKING OFF ‘WURD ON DEMOCRACY’ 2024 ELECTION COVERAGE

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 21, 2024 — WURD Radio, the only independent Black talk radio station in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is set to hold an exclusive live broadcast from the White House on Feb. 26, featuring key members of the Biden-Harris administration. This special event marks the kickoff of WURD on Democracy, an initiative dedicated to comprehensive and in-depth coverage of the 2024 elections.

WURD Radio hosts Solomon Jones, Tonya Pendleton and Brother Shomari will be on location at the White House complex to engage in direct dialogue with cabinet secretaries and high-ranking administration officials, discussing pressing issues. They will interrogate the administration’s record of supporting Black Americans and pose questions culled from the WURD Radio audience.

The event will take place at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, adjacent to the West Wing.

WURD on Democracy will commence with a day of robust, intelligent, and elevated political and election conversation,” said Sara M. Lomax, WURD Radio President and CEO. “Pennsylvania will play a critical role in the 2024 presidential election. Philadelphia is the state’s largest city and Black voters make up its largest voting bloc. Anyone seeking election to public office must recognize WURD Radio’s role as a key conduit to reach these voters.”

WURD listeners can hear live, exclusive interviews starting with Wake Up With WURD hosted by Solomon Jones from 7 to 10 a.m. Reality Check with Tonya Pendleton follows from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Listeners will hear Brother Shomari, host of Groundings, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The daylong broadcast will be immediately followed by a special edition of Evening WURDs with James Peterson titled “What Is Owed? Reparations Movements in the 21st Century” from 4 to 7 p.m.

After the live broadcast from Washington D.C., WURD on Democracy will continue throughout 2024 with on-air voter education segments, astute analysis from experienced political contributors across WURD’s daily programming, and online voter guides.

“The kickoff to WURD on Democracy from Washington D.C. signals an understanding that the Black vote cannot and will not be taken for granted in 2024,” said WURD Radio General Manager Ashanti Martin. “WURD Radio’s audience is made up of ‘supervoters’ who rely on the information and analysis we deliver every day to make their decisions. The event on Monday is a demonstration of the importance of independent Black media in upholding our precious democracy.”
