This past Wednesday, Mar. 8 was International Women’s Day. To celebrate, we wanted to take a look back at some recent interviews with extraordinary women.

Music: Legendary singer, actress and television host Dionne Warwick and her son, multi-platinum record producer Damon Elliott joined Wake Up With WURD’s Solomon Jones to talk about “HITS! The Musical,” in which they are both co-producers.

Arts: Vashti DuBois is a social practice artist, creative scholar and institution-builder. She is the founder and executive director of The Colored Girls Museum in Philadelphia. She joined Love and Life to talk about her motivation for creating the museum and to discuss the historical and cultural significance of the project.

1619 Project: WURD President and CEO Sara M. Lomax sat down with Nikole Hannah-Jones, the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of the 1619 Project and a staff writer at The New York Times Magazine. She joined WURD to discuss her journey to the culture-shifting project and the new docuseries based on the book.

Social Justice: Emerald Snipes-Garner is the executive director of the nonprofit We Can’t Breathe Inc., inspired by her late father, Eric Garner, and her sister Erica Garner. She joined The Source to discuss her thoughts on the Anti-Chokehold Act, how the video of her father’s death traumatized her family, and her take on police officers.
