WURD Radio celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Fitler Club in downtown Philadelphia on Friday, Nov. 10. The evening started with a cocktail reception where guests mingled with WURD hosts, grabbed some food and enjoyed the vibes. To see photos from the night click below.

As we celebrated 20 years we had to remember those of us who had been here since the beginning. Below you can watch the Day One Awards where we honored WURD legends like Ms. Vikki Leach, David Barnes and more and then paid tribute to Cody Anderson. Watch both below:

The main event was a panel discussion titled “The Power and Possibility of Black Media,” featuring Sara Lomax from WURD Radio, Melody Spann-Cooper from WVON in Chicago, Tavis Smiley from KBLA in Los Angeles and Rev. Al Sharpton. They talked about the future of independent Black-owned media and what it means to thrive for over two decades. Watch below:

After the conversation, Carol Riddick delivered an unforgettable performance and DJ Gary O then took the reins, transforming the gathering into a dance party that had everyone moving to the beat.

Overall, it was a great night celebrating WURD Radio’s legacy and looking ahead to what’s next in Black-owned media. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate and support our 20 years. Make sure to stay tuned for more events and to hear the latest in Black. Talk. Media.
