Driven by the fight against racial inequality, attorney Bryan Stevenson, author of the bestseller “Just Mercy,” talked with Wake Up With WURD host Solomon Jones to discuss how his upbringing in a segregated Delaware led to his career fighting for the wrongfully accused. Stevenson also discussed little-known facts about northern states’ participation in the slave trade, his belief that equality can be a reality in this country and how the United States can correct its history of oppressing and brutalizing Black people.
”I really do believe that each person is more than the worst thing they’ve ever done,” he says. “I don’t believe that if somebody tells a lie they’re just a liar, if someone takes something then they are just a thief. Even if you kill somebody, you’re not just a killer.”
