WURD Radio and ecoWURD, in partnership with Bartram’s Garden, celebrated Earth Day with a special live broadcast hosted by Charles Ellison on April 22 at Bartram’s Garden. The event, “Food, Faith and Violence & the Environment,” featured a conversation on the future of food movements in Black faith communities, as well as a roundtable with local leaders exploring place-based solutions and the intersection of sustainable use of green space and its impact on reducing violence in our communities.

If you missed our Earth Day event, check out highlights and replay those conversations below.

  • “Black Food & Faith Matters”: Food and faith have been among the most powerful elements of connections to one another – from the land to bridging the gap in both survival and liberation. In this conversation, local Black faith leaders and farmers discussed the role of faith and spirituality in Black food sovereignty work, ancestral connections between food and faith and food movements’ future in Black faith communities. https://soundcloud.com/onwurd/earth-day-2022-panel-1
  • “Violence and the Environment”: Local leaders explored place-based solutions and the intersection of sustainable use of our environment and its impact on violence reduction in our communities. https://soundcloud.com/onwurd/earth-day-2022-panel-2

This event was sponsored by Comcast, Bank of America, Philadelphia Water Department, PECO and Keystone First and supported by Solutions Journalism Network and Independence Public Media Foundation.
