District Attorney Larry Krasner joined Wake Up With WURD with Solomon Jones to talk about Philadelphia’s reduction in crime and incarceration, the threat to democracy under the Trump administration, and new allegations against current and former Philadelphia police officers who were charged with defrauding tax payers by working second jobs with the youth program “Guns Down Gloves Up” while on duty as police officers.

R&B singer and Tony/Grammy award winner Heather Headley joined Tiffany Bacon on The Midday Break Room. In addition to discussing her renowned career and upcoming show at the McCarter Theatre, Headley also treated the audience to an impromptu a capella performance.

Kristen Demilio is an investigative journalist who spent several years living and working in the Middle East. She now lives in Philadelphia and reports on quality-of-life issues. She joined Evening WURDs with Dr. James Peterson to discuss her Philadelphia Citizen article on how Philadelphia has the second-highest rate of porch package theft and what residents and the city can do about it.

Dr. Abike James is an OB-GYN physician at Penn Medicine. James joined Soulful Sunrise with Karen Taylor Bass to talk about National Diabetes Awareness Month, the disproportionate impact of diabetes on the Black community, symptoms, and actionable steps for prevention and management, particularly for women.

Debora Carrera is the chief education officer for the Mayor’s Office in Philadelphia. She joined ecoWURD Magazine with P.O.C. to talk about the city’s new One Philly Produce Project and the broader vision for student success. Carrera broke down how schools are becoming community hubs, expanding fresh food access, offering free before- and after-school care, and establishing new college-to-career pipelines.
