The National Association of Black Journalists Philadelphia chapter president Michael Days, vice president Melanie Burney, and Morgan State University professor Wayne Dawkins joined Wake Up With WURD with Solomon Jones. They talked about Trump’s highly contentious appearance at the annual NABJ convention and their experience witnessing Trump’s attempt to appeal to Black voters backfire.
Attorney Damon Tyner made an appearance on Wake Up With WURD and discussed President Joe Biden’s recent proposals to revitalize the ethics and code of conduct for Supreme Court justices. The proposals call for term limits rather than lifetime seat appointments, mandated disclosure of all gifts received and stripping immunity for presidents while in office.
Representatives of the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Matthew Heckles and Bennett Hilley joined Reality Check’s Tonya Pendleton to discuss the Green and Resilient Retrofit Program as it pertains to flash flooding, individual health and ensuring affordable housing that is safe in high-heat and poor air quality environments.
Ashley Redfearn Neswick is the CEO of American Paradigm Schools, a nonprofit organization that serves four Philadelphia charter schools. Redfearn joined The Source with Thera Martin to discuss the state of education and looking beyond test scores by aiding students’ basic needs all year long.
Dr. Yaba Blay, director of The Whites of Our Eyes joined Tonya Pendleton to discuss the film’s screening the BlackStar Film Festival this weekend. The film explores Blay’s voyage back to her homeland of Ghana and challenges Blay to tackle the notion of beauty and Blackness.
