This Friday, tune in from 12pm  – 3pm for a special edition of “The Shomari Show,” which will host “The Case for Black Male Achievement (part two) – A National Conversation on How America Can Elevate Its Prominence by Investing in Black Men and Boys.”

900AM-WURD is committed to ongoing coverage of the August 9 fatal shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager, in Ferguson, MO. It was announced on November 24 that the St. Louis County grand jury convened to determine whether to indict police officer Darren Wilson has not brought criminal charges against him.

Vine Memorial Baptist Church’s Community Outreach Ministry is holding a pre-election forum where key issues for the upcoming election season can be discussed. WURD’s own Brother Shomari will lead a conversation on education, including considerations for public schools, private schools, charter schools and home schooling.

WURD’s Eye on Education series tackles the difficult issues currently facing the Philadelphia education system with a particular focus on models of success both locally and nationally. Our final event is the WURD Speaks: Eye on Education Symposium on September 30 at the Franklin Institute.

As part of WURD’s “Eye on Education” series, and in recognition of the first week of the 2014 school year in Philadelphia, we’re starting our morning broadcasts off with excerpts from previous WURD events that explored education, youth violence, and related topics. Full versions of the programs will be added to this post daily.

WURD’s Eye on Education series continues on September 13 at the State of Education panel organized by the Philadelphia Community of Leaders, and wraps up on September 30 with our WURD Speaks: Eye on Education community forum. Click the headline to RSVP and get more details.

Today, 900AM-WURD kicked off its Eye on Education series with coverage of a School District of Philadelphia press conference where Superintendent Dr. William Hite outlined his budget plan to open schools on time in September despite a significant cash shortfall.
