Jonathan Bey – was born on May 11, 1949. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he grew up in the Raymond Rosen projects in North Philly and was educated in the public school system. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1966 and joined the military in 1968. He served in Vietnam from February 1969 to February 1970, being discharged in August 1971. He attended the American Academy of Broadcasting from September 1977 to May 1978. He worked at a radio station in Trenton N.J. in 1978 and joined WRTI at Temple U from January 1979 to May 1985, joining WURD in July 2005 to present.

Aqueelah H. Jamal – I love jazz music, its community, and WURD RADIO! I was born and raised in Philadelphia and have had a love of music from the womb. I get it from my mother who enjoyed all music, people and good times. I love RADIO from the transistor to today’s podcasts and streaming outlets. I was introduced to broadcasting by my dear friend, Jonathan Bey, who led me to The American Academy of Broadcasting in the late 1970s. He then connected me to Temple University where I was introduced to WRTI 90.1FM Radio and spent six years there amongst some of the best communicators (our preferred term for DJs) and learned from the best of the best! Eighteen years in the chair is an honor, a privilege and a blessing.
