Lloyd Cummings

Background

Lloyd Cummings – was born in Jamaica and migrated to the U.K., Canada and Philadelphia. He was recruited in 1973 to work at WDAS by news director Charles Harmon. He started at WDAS with a show called Caribbean Magazine, on Sundays from 9 to 11 a.m. Lloyd then moved with Cody Anderson to WHAT where he hosted The Caribbean Connection from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays while at the same time hosting Caribbean Rhythms from 6 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays on WRTI 90.1FM. After WRTI came the marathon at WURD Radio, where he has been since the beginning, hosting Caribbean Rhythms on Saturdays from 7 to 10 p.m. with reggae, soca and calypso music. His show was voted by the Ford Motor Company Achievement In Radio Awards as the best weekend radio show in Philadelphia. Lloyd also found time to be a banking officer at PNC Bank in Philadelphia as well as a car salesman at Conicelli Autoplex in Conshohocken. He is still going strong at WURD with music to uplift your spirits and bring joy to your heart.
