Philadelphia’s 7th Ward – the section of Center City that comprises neighborhoods between Society Hill and Fitler Square – was once a hub of Black culture in the city from the 18th century through the height of segregation. “Legacy Reclaimed” is an innovative, experimental cultural project that explores and documents the often-overlooked impact of Black Philadelphians on this area.

Next Tuesday, Dr. James Peterson will host a special edition of Evening WURDs live from Mother Bethel AME Church, the home base of the 7th Ward Tribute project. Join us for a provocative discussion on cultural and historic preservation and the Black experience in Philadelphia featuring Penn Professor Amber Wiley and community organizer Lenwood Sloan.

Bonus: Watch WURD Radio President and CEO Sara Lomax and Tayyib Smith, the project’s visionary, discuss the importance of owning our historical legacy.
