WURD is proud to celebrate our Founder’s Day Gala in honor of our founder, Walter P. Lomax Jr., M.D. Join us on October 3 at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center (100 Horticultural Dr., Philadelphia) from 6 to 10 p.m. for a night of festivities. *Doors open at 5:30 p.m and free valet is included.

At this year’s Founder’s Day Gala, WURD Radio will unveil “Freedom Journeys: Celebrating the Lives of 250 Phenomenal Philadelphians.” In recognition of the Semiquincentennial – the 250th birthday of the nation – WURD will spotlight 250 iconic Philadelphians in the 250 days leading up to July 4, 2026, the 250th birthday of the nation. In honor of WURD founder, Walter P. Lomax Jr., M.D., we will launch our “Phenomenal Philadelphians” series at Founder’s Day with a special presentation of his story, acknowledging his stellar medical career, successful entrepreneurial journey, real estate prowess, philanthropy and commitment to community empowerment.

The night will also consist of a powerful panel discussion, “The Philadelphia Lawyer: Defenders of Democracy,” featuring attorneys Michael Coard, Keir Bradford-Grey and Dr. Dorothy Roberts. You also don’t want to miss our dance party with DJ Reezey and the unforgettable performance of I Got Life: The Music of Nina Simone performed by Carol Riddick and Gerald Veasley.
