We are glad to report that the litigation brought by Do No Harm against WURD Radio, the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and the Consortium Dedicated to Health Equity Education (CDHE) has ended. We appreciate the support of our audience and community during this difficult time. With the conclusion of the lawsuit, we can now continue the essential work of connecting our audience with trusted, culturally competent medical information.

This fall, we will relaunch the WURD Radio Community Health and Wellness Directory – designed to help underserved Philadelphians find high-quality, culturally sensitive healthcare. The directory features physicians who have demonstrated a commitment to helping underserved patients and communities. This directory will also include interviews, resources and other multimedia information to educate and empower Philadelphians in search of excellent healthcare. While the Community Health and Wellness Directory has launched as a doctors directory, it will continue to evolve and expand to include other healthcare providers and resources.

At a time when Medicaid and SNAP benefits are under attack, it is critically important that our listeners have resources and support that will help them better care for themselves and their families. This directory is designed to help them navigate a complex health care system while providing information that can also enhance their self-care practices.

For over 20 years, WURD Radio has been a trusted voice and platform for truth-telling, community advocacy, and cultural empowerment in Pennsylvania. We have consistently delivered high-impact, locally rooted content across AM/FM airwaves, streaming platforms, mobile apps, and community events. The Community Health and Wellness Directory was created in response to our listeners’ desire to find culturally competent healthcare. The directory also builds on the legacy of our founder, Walter P. Lomax, Jr., M.D., who devoted his life to making healthcare accessible and compassionate for underserved communities.

The past several months have been deeply challenging. Media organizations are under attack, as are Black institutions. WURD Radio, the only Black-owned talk radio station in Pennsylvania and one of the few remaining in the nation, has been navigating this “new abnormal.” As we continue to do so, WURD remains committed to advancing health equity by making quality health-related information accessible to as many as possible.
