This week on WURD: How Tariff’s can effect you, SEPTA faces major cuts, eco-friendly alternatives for Philly homes

Mayor Cherelle Parker joined Wake Up With WURD with Solomon Jones to talk about the current state of the city. Parker addressed youth gun violence, affordable housing resources and the proposed and potentially harmful cuts to SEPTA. 

Sara Manning and Gianna Brisbane lead Beyond Literacy as the chief operating officer and director of education, respectively. They spoke with Dr. James Peterson on Evening WURDs to showcase the organization’s work to bring accessible education to non-English speakers, boost literacy rates and develop workplace training programs. 

Daniel Hornung is the former deputy director of the National Economic Council under the Biden administration. Hornung joined Wake Up With WURD with Solomon Jones to talk about President Trump’s tariffs and what effect a trade war will have on consumers.

P.O.C. is the host of WURD’s environmental justice show ecoWURD Magazine and founder of REVIVE Radio. P.O.C. recounted her experience at Philadelphia’s “Hands Off” national anti-Trump demonstration, which was held across the country to display resistance against the current administration.

Tim Bennett is the founder of Bennett Compost, a recycling and compost center based in Philadelphia. He spoke with P.O.C. on ecoWURD Magazine to explain how he started Bennett Compost and how residents can get involved in eco-friendly alternatives for sustainable urban environments.
