It has been a tumultuous several months for Walter D. Palmer Leadership Learning Partners Charter School. The school has been beset with financial challenges that forced it to close its high school campus in the fall, and on December 26, families of remaining students received a letter from the school that it would permanently close on December 31.

Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter of The Roots recently made a special appearance at their South Philadelphia alma mater, The Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA). They were there to encourage students to reach for their dreams and to launch a nonprofit they started that will raise money for the improvement of the school.
