Jonathan Bey

Background

Jonathan Bey – was born on May 11, 1949. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he grew up in the Raymond Rosen projects in North Philly and was educated in the public school system. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1966 and joined the military in 1968. He served in Vietnam from February 1969 to February 1970, being discharged in August 1971. He attended the American Academy of Broadcasting from
September 1977 to May 1978. He worked at a radio station in Trenton N.J. in 1978 and joined WRTI at Temple U from January 1979 to May 1985, joining WURD in July 2005 to present. “First off, I must thank 4 people, my partner Aqueelah, David Barnes, Cody Anderson and Dr. Walter P. Lomax Jr. for creating a source to present pre-recorded jazz music in all its forms over the radio which the listening audience was lacking. WURD has given us the chance to fill that gap.
