On Thursday, April 15th, 2021, WURD Radio presents it’s 6th annual Jackie Robinson Day live broadcast from 1pm -4pm hosted by Charles Ellison and Andrea Lawful Sanders. The annual broadcast acknowledges the day that Jackie Robinson revolutionized Major League Baseball by breaking the racial barriers previously imposed. This year, building on the revolutionary role that Jackie Robinson played in desegregating Major League Baseball, WURD will explore the theme of Black athletes and their pivotal role in advocating for social justice. This is particularly relevant today given the recent decision to move the All Star game out of Georgia in protest to the restrictive voting laws recently passed.

WURD Radio celebrates Jackie Robinson as a representation of resilience, dedication, commitment and perseverance. MLB also recognizes the day with an extensive and unified league-wide show of support which has included retiring Robinson’s number throughout the Majors in 1997; dedicating April 15th as Jackie Robinson Day annually since 2004; and requesting that all players and on-field personnel wear his No. 42 during games scheduled on Jackie Robinson Day since 2009.
