WURD will partner with The Philadelphia Citizen for a panel discussion titled: “Oxymoron No Longer: Innovation and Local Government,” a panel discussion between some of the nation’s most dynamic young mayors on ways to re-imagine the relationship between government and the governed. The panel will be followed by access to the exhibit and a convention “watch party” on a big screen.
Among the young mayors on the program will be Ithaca’s Svante Myrick, said to the next incarnation of Obama, and who turned his mayoral parking spot into one of the smallest parks in America; South Orange, New Jersey’s Alex Torpey, who gameified the city budget online; Rochester, New York’s Lovely Warren, who has pioneered the advent of worker-owned cooperative businesses in at-risk neighborhoods; Braddock, PA’s John Fetterman, a recent candidate for the U.S. Senate, and potentially South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg (recently profiled in the Times by Frank Bruni) and Compton Mayor Aja Brown.
