Details

The 20th Annual Donor Dash offers several course options – a 5K run, a 10K run and a 3K walk – so people of all fitness levels can get involved. The event begins at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and continues along the West River Drive, a USA Track and Field certified course. Back by popular demand, the 2015 Donor Dash will include a kid’s fun run for children six-years-old and under. Children can also participate in KYW Newsradio’s Kidcasts, airing live from the event.

The 2014 Dash saw a record number of supporters, with 12,000 people in attendance. This year, Gift of Life is looking forward to an even greater turnout! The Dash began with a group of only 800 people. It started as a result of Claire Braverman’s wish to honor her husband, Mickey, who passed away while waiting for a new liver. Claire wanted to turn her grief into something positive, so she organized the first-ever Dash in his memory. Today, the Dash continues to honor Mickey, donors and donor families – and all of the more than 6,200 men, women and children in Gift of Life’s region (eastern PA, southern NJ and DE) who are awaiting a life-saving organ transplant.

Currently, the need for organs and tissue is vastly greater than the number available for transplantation. Every day, 21 people die due to the lack of transplantable organs, highlighting the significant need for more registered donors. Just one donor can make a significant impact and save or enhance the lives of up to 50 people through organ and tissue donation. Register at donordash.org. Online registration, before April 15th, is $28. After April 15th, the cost to register on-site is $35.
