Apollo Uptown Hall: Movement Required was motivated by the themes from the Apollo and Opera Philadelphia’s October 2017 opera, We Shall Not Be Moved. This community conversation featured an excerpt of the award-winning documentary Let the Fire Burn, which covered one of the most tumultuous (and largely forgotten) clashes between government and citizens in modern American history. There was also a focus on some of today’s problems in Urban America that the film addressed, particularly law enforcement and community relations and the lack of youth and family services.
Co-moderated by Solomon Jones from Philadelphia’s WURD-AM/FM and Imhotep Gary Byrd from New York City’s WBAI-FM, this WURD Radio digital special is in partnership with The Apollo Theater and WABI-FM.
