Morgan Lloyd is the program coordinator for The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP). She joined Solomon Jones on Wake Up With WURD to promote AAMP’s 2024 Kwanzaa Celebration, a series of special programs and events beginning December 26 that celebrate Kwanzaa and its cultural traditions and practices that uplift principles of family and community.
Ruth Naomi Floyd is a vocalist, composer, photographer, justice worker and the first African-American woman to serve as founding director of a university jazz program in America. She spoke with Solomon Jones about her recent award from Pew Charitable Trusts and how her two decades of work have culminated in great achievements in jazz.

Ekow Eshun, a curator, writer, and trailblazer in British culture, made history as the first Black editor of the UK’s Arena magazine and the first Black director of London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts. He joined Dr. Peterson on Evening WURDs to discuss his latest exhibit, “The Time is Always Now,” an exploration of the Black figure in contemporary art, now on view at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Councilmember Nicolas O’Rourke joined Amadee Braxton on Solutions to discuss why he voted “no” on the Sixers arena deal, what may come next after it recently was approved and what the legislative process is moving forward.
