Michael Hart is a spokesperson for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Hart joined Dr. James Peterson on Evening WURDs to discuss the federal government’s response to Hurricane Milton and how the agency is dispelling misinformation regarding the natural disaster.

Keisha Hudson is the chief defender and Tom Innes is head of prison advocacy at the Defender Association of Philadelphia, which provides legal representation to vulnerable populations. Hudson and Innes joined Reality Check with Tonya Pendleton to discuss the city’s Office of Prison Oversight and challenges surrounding transparency and accountability within the city’s correctional institutions.

WURD President and CEO Sara Lomax joined Wake Up With WURD with Solomon Jones on the eve of the 2024 Founder’s Day celebration. Lomax detailed the significance of Founder’s Day and the cultural investments that WURD and Walter P. Lomax, Jr., M.D., have made to the community.

Councilmember Jamie Gauthier talked with Tonya Pendleton about the opening of the Tiffany Fletcher Recreation Center in West Philly, renamed in honor of Fletcher who was killed by a stray bullet outside the center in 2022. Gauthier also discussed SEPTA’s battle for increased state funding and the potential impacts on the public.

Dorothy Roberts, Penn professor and acclaimed author, scholar and activist, joined Wake Up With WURD to preview “Dissecting Project 2025,” a panel discussion this Thursday that took a balanced look at the document that has captured public attention during the 2024 presidential election.
