(PHILADELPHIA, PA) – WURD Radio welcomes media and broadcast veteran Paul O. Robertson as its new Director of Sales. The station, which is Pennsylvania’s only independent Black-owned talk radio station, and one of only a few remaining in the country, looks to expand its business and media partnerships in 2020.
Robertson, who is new to Philadelphia, brings a fresh perspective to the role the station plays in being a change-making platform for its listeners. “What appealed to me about the opportunity to join WURD is the incredible way the station serves the community,” said Robertson. With over three decades of broadcast, sales, and management experience, he looks forward to bringing his expertise in relationship building and business development to WURD.
Previously, Robertson served as the Chair of the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau. He has worked as Vice President of Corporate Development at Connecticut Public Broadcasting and as Assistant General Manager for UConn Sports Marketing for IMG. His extensive background in broadcasting management and sales includes jobs as the Station Manager of Radio Disney Connecticut, Senior Account Manager for the former Buckley Broadcasting (now Connoisseur Media), as a Sales Manager at NBC Connecticut, and as an Account Executive at CBS Radio in Farmington. Robertson also spent 11 years as Vice President and General Manager for WQTQ-FM 89.9, a broadcast radio station based at Weaver High School in Hartford. During those years, he also taught broadcasting classes to the school’s students.
WURD’s previous Director of Sales and General Manager, Monica Lewis, worked for 8 of the 10 years, Sara Lomax-Reese has served as WURD’s President and CEO. Lewis was key in leading the execution of Lomax-Reese’s vision to transform WURD Radio from a legacy talk radio station to a multimedia communications company providing cutting edge, original programming on-air, online and through community events.
“We are excited to welcome Paul O. Robertson to the WURD team. He brings a wealth of experience in radio, television and business development that will undoubtedly help take WURD to the next level,” said WURD President and CEO, Sara Lomax-Reese. “In 2020 we want to maximize our unique position as one of the few remaining Black-owned talk radio stations in the nation. And with Paul’s extensive sales, marketing and management background we are perfectly positioned to explore new avenues for growth and opportunity across all media platforms.”
