This past weekend, nearly 100,000 people flooded Selma, AL to commemorate the 50th anniversary of marches to show support for African Americans’ right to vote. President Obama delivered a moving speech considered by some to be his best since taking office.
It was announced today that Philadelphia has been selected as the site of the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Philly was the winner in a field of five finalist cities that included Columbus (Ohio) and Brooklyn, New York. Other cities considered included Birmingham, Alabama and Phoenix, Arizona.
WURD’s news crew had a chance to speak to State Senator Anthony Hardy Williams at a November 19 (2014) event where he announced his candidacy for the 2015 Democratic primary election and his hope to be Philadelphia’s next mayor. Williams also had a very special message just for the WURD family.
Vine Memorial Baptist Church’s Community Outreach Ministry is holding a pre-election forum where key issues for the upcoming election season can be discussed. WURD’s own Brother Shomari will lead a conversation on education, including considerations for public schools, private schools, charter schools and home schooling.
