The 31st annual Celebration of Black Writing (CBW), one of the most prominent African-American literary events in the nation, puts the spotlight on black literary, visual and performing arts. Takes place the entire month of May!

WURD was on-hand to witness the celebration of Jeff Bradshaw’s long-awaited live CD project, HOME, featuring some of his talented friends in the music business and in life. Here host Stephanie Renée chats with crooner Eric Roberson about his involvement in the album.

On Wednesday February 25, Xfinity live-streamed a two-part web series titled #MakingHistoryToday, focusing on Black tech entrepreneurs. WURD Program Director Stephanie Renée chatted with a few of the panelists to learn more about their platforms and captured it all on film for WURD Backstage.

The Book Fair started out on a cold frosty day at John Wanamaker Department Store and is now one of the oldest and largest single-day events for African American children’s books in the country. Authors and illustrators will make presentations from their books; also games, prizes, promotional give-aways and reading resources will be available. A wide selection of African American books to purchase will be featured at the event.

This event is free and open to the public!

WURD caught up with the “Southern Hummingbird” TWEET during her recent swing into Philadelphia for the first live performance of her own material in 10 years.

900AM-WURD’s Stef Renée will host a pre-show chat with Motown the Musical cast members Jamarice Daughtry, Jesse Nager, and Ashley Tamar Davis. Also joining Stef will be the architect of The Sound of Philadelphia — Philly’s Motown — music legend Kenny Gamble, as well as Detroit native and NBC-1o news veteran Harry Hairston.

In November 2014, WURD partnered with Eastern State Penitentiary for the second in a series of symposiums focused on crime and incarceration, and the overarching impact that both of these matters have on our society.
