Stephanie Renée is a native of Washington DC, but has long ties to the city of Philadelphia from childhood, when she spent a portion of every summer with family who lived in the Wynnefield and Mt. Airy sections of the city. When considering where to spend her college career, Stephanie’s high school magnet program in business and her family ties to Philadelphia made the University of Pennsylvania a great fit, cementing her love for the city, its people and its deep cultural roots.
Stephanie’s life in Philadelphia developed along two distinct professional tracks: marketing/promotions and performance. She spent nearly five years as a copywriter and broadcast producer at Beach Advertising, developing award-winning campaigns for a diverse client base including the School District of Philadelphia, PECO Energy and Rock The Vote. In her personal life, Stephanie was honing her vocal and acting skills in musical theater productions with Society Hill Playhouse and Freedom Theater, before deciding to quit her day job and pursue a deeper connection to the arts full-time.
Over the past 16 years, Stephanie has shared her gifts on the national and international stage, and on a long list of successful recordings. Her love for the arts and a passion for education led her to several partnerships with national non-profit organizations to develop curricula in creative expression and multicultural/diversity literacy. After being introduced to the WURD family as a fill-in host, Stephanie is now a beloved presence on the airwaves Monday through Friday from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. on The MOJO and serves as the station’s Program Director, where she is responsible for overseeing the station’s production staff, overall soundprint, schedule and editorial content.
“Embrace and Explore YOUR Black Magic!” The MOJO, hosted by Stephanie Renée (Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.*), emphasizes issues of arts and entertainment, cultural identity, education and economics.
Stephanie Renée guides her audience through a daily exercise of finding beauty in the midst of ugliness, hope in the face of strife, and inspiration in moments great and mundane.
*The MOJO is pre-empted on Thursdays when Philadelphia City Council is in Session
