Philadelphia wins bid for 2016 Democratic National Convention

It was announced today that Philadelphia has been selected as the site of the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Philly was the winner in a field of five finalist cities that included Columbus, Ohio and Brooklyn, New York. Other cities considered included Birmingham, Alabama and Phoenix, Arizona. The convention kicks on on July 25 2016.

According to the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, “The Democratic National Convention was last held in Philadelphia in 1948 and the Republican National Convention was held in Philadelphia in 2000. The 2016 Democratic National Convention will generate between $170 and $250 million in economic impact for the city.”
