#ManUpPHL challenges black men to take on gun violence
Dozens of black male organizations convene to stop the shooting
PHILADELPHIA— As Philadelphia’s children are increasingly caught in the crossfire, #ManUpPHL, is bringing together hundreds of black men from all over Philadelphia to address gun violence. The goal is to step into the lives of black men who are statistically most likely to be victims or perpetrators of gun violence in our city. By convening the many organizations that are now addressing this issue separately, we will help black men from all walks of life unite to bring peace to our streets.
WHO: Radio host and columnist Solomon Jones and over 300 black men from dozens of anti-violence organizations. Participating organizations include 100 Black Men, the Black Male Community Council of Philadelphia, LESSONS, and dozens more.
WHAT: #ManUpPHL: A grassroots effort bringing black men together to address gun violence. Through mentoring, accountability, resources and consistency, #ManUpPHL offers men real alternatives and helps them to avoid the violence that’s disproportionately killing black men and boys.
