2016 is the 50th anniversary of the Black Panther Party and a number of commemorations are in the works across the nation, including the recent airing of the PBS Independent Lens documentary The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution.

Last week, NYC Lens published an in-depth story (“Panther Women Look Back”) about the important, but often overlooked, role women played in the Black Panther Party. The article, by Ang Li, includes interviews with former Panthers Barbara Easley Cox, Claudia Williams, J. Yasmeen Sutton and Paula Peebles. Peebles, a native Philadelphian, is scheduled to participate in WURD Speaks: Sisters in the Struggle on March 4.

Be sure to join us on March 4 – and get your tickets now before they’re gone!
