For Solomon Jones, it’s all about guts

FINALLY, after years of being ridiculed for having beer bellies, love handles and man boobs, dads have gained social-media acceptance, and our physical attributes have gone viral.
No longer do we have to play second fiddle to Instagram pictures of Kim Kardashian’s butt. We will not be overshadowed by Beyonce’s see-through dress. We don’t even have to compete with Trey Songz’s abs for Instagram likes. Not anymore.
Why should we be proud of our flab, you ask? Because 19-year-old Mackenzie Pearson, a sophomore at Clemson University, has declared that the “Dad Bod” is in vogue.
She explained it this way in a piece in her college magazine, the Odyssey: “The dad bod is a nice balance between a beer gut and working out. The dad bod says, ‘I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time.’ It’s not an overweight guy, but it isn’t one with washboard abs, either.”
Like dads everywhere, I rejoiced at reading Mackenzie’s words, and I immediately posted five pics of my love handles on Instagram with captions such as “Chicks dig the cellulite” and “Baby got fat.”
