Written by Stephanie Renee on January 29, 2018
The state of Israel will celebrate its 70th Anniversary in 2018, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia has launched its Israeli Changemakers lecture series to give local residents an inside perspective on some of the evolution happening around issues of inclusion, social justice and political consciousness.
Mehereta Baruch-Ron is the Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv and the first Ethiopian-born person to hold the office. She will speak at Haverford College on Tuesday Jan 30 about her journey from religious refugee to public service. WURD Radio spoke with Baruch-Ron about coming of age and into a sense of cultural consciousness in a foreign land, and her hopes of being a strong voice for the disadvantaged.
